How to apply for the INBDE
All candidates must take the INBDE at a Prometric testing center, the official vendor approved by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and the Department of Testing Services (DTS). Follow these steps to schedule your exam:
- Create or Manage Your DENTPINⓇ
A DENTPIN (Dental Personal Identifier Number) is required to apply for the INBDE and complete exam-related steps. First-time test takers must register for a DENTPIN. If you’ve previously applied for or taken a dental exam, you already have one. Use the provided link to retrieve or create your DENTPIN:

Thoroughly read the INBDE Candidate Guide (PDF), paying particular attention to eligibility requirements, rules of conduct, exam regulations, and testing center procedures. - Request Testing Accommodations (If Applicable)
The INBDE program offers reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for individuals with documented disabilities or medical conditions. To request accommodations:
- Submit your request electronically using your DENTPIN and password.
- Include appropriate documentation as outlined in the Candidate Guide.

- Submit Your Application to the JCNDE
Complete your application and pay the exam fee. Keep in mind:
- Exam fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
- Your credit or debit card will be charged upon submission.
- The name on your ID must match exactly with the name on your application. Any mismatch will result in denied admission, requiring you to reapply and forfeit your previous fee.
- If you attended a dental school not accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), download and complete the INBDE Certification of Eligibility form (PDF).
After your application is reviewed, you will receive an eligibility email from the JCNDE. If you don’t receive it, check your spam folder before contacting the JCNDE.
- Schedule Your Exam with Prometric
Once eligible, contact Prometric to choose your exam date. Schedule your appointment 60 to 90 days before your desired test date.
- Visit the Prometric website and select “Schedule.”
- Choose your preferred state and test center.
- Use your DENTPIN as your eligibility ID and select the INBDE option.
